Good Chair for Average User; Too Small for Tall Guys, January 13, 2010

Bought one of these for a friend who had complained of lower-back pain after working at his home computer. Several years earlier, I had ordered a “Kneelsit” chair from Australia for the same reason, and found that it really eliminated my back pain, but my friend wanted something cheaper and smaller. The WL-1430-GG requires a lot of assembly (tip: lay out all the smaller parts on a table, in the same order as shown on the assembly instructions, and use a magnifying glass to see the detail of “what goes where” in the line drawings). When assembled, the chair looked good (the tilted seat is good for relieving strain on the lower back), and the three settings for seat height are a plus, but the knee pad turned out to be positioned too close to the seat for comfort, since my friend is 6’2″, with long legs. (Unfortunately, the knee pad can’t be adjusted relative to the seat.) We took apart the rubber shock absorbers and related parts that support the knee pad, and re-assembled them on the “wrong” side of the crossbar: this provided an extra inch or so of space, but it’s still a tight fit. Bottom line: this is probably a good chair if you are of average height and weight. If you’re unusually tall, short, or heavy, be sure to test the chair before discarding its packaging, since you may need to return it.

Adjusting The Chair, January 18, 2010

I have just gotten the chair and can’t say if I will find it comfortable over time. I almost took it apart to return it because I found the back pressing against the middle of my own back so that I was forced to sit a couple of inches forward on the seat. When I mentioned this to my husband he promptly removed the spring. Suddenly the chair back seems lower, further back, and stationary so that I’m sitting straight up without support. When I feel like it I can now lean back slightly and rest my lower back against the chair back for a few moments. This may not be the way the chair was intended to be used but so far it’s working for me.
The directions for assembling it aren’t the best. I’ve assembled a few chairs by myself but had to ask my more mechanical husband for help on this one.

Well made chair but no back adjustment. the back needed to be bent back about 10 degrees for my stature. I had a shop bend it rather than returhing to manufacturer.
